Plot: The game, “Kung-Fu Strike: The Warrior’s Rise,” follows the adventure of General Loh, a warrior trying to avenge his father’s death while China is in danger of being ripped apart by wars of various factions. Loh embarks on a dangerous journey to find his father’s killer, to save his homeland from destruction, and to discover the meaning behind the mysterious ‘Zen Room of Emptiness.’
Graphics: Although this game does not feature the state-of-the-art NPC figures that many games today have, I personally enjoy the semi-realistic, animated characters. Despite the fact that the graphics are not completely lifelike, they are very detailed and give the game a nice touch. I also found that my laptop experienced no lag issues during gameplay, even with many people in the arena. Most people will be able to experience this game without any frame drops, which is a huge plus in today’s gaming world.
Sound: While you play through the game, you will hear enough Dojo style music to satisfy yourself to your heart’s content. Also, as you attack or be attacked, the combat sounds line up well with the gameplay. You will not find yourself getting kicked in the chin and hearing it half a second later. While I personally would have liked more soundtracks be played, I thought Kung-Fu Strike had decent music before it got repetitive. I would have enjoyed more variety in the soundtrack but it didn’t detract from the gameplay.
Controls: Probably my biggest gripe with the game, I wish the developers did a better job with the controls. The thing that bothered me was the fact that you cannot use your mouse to select things on various menu screens. This leaves you to pressing the “WASD” keys to scroll around the interface. If you can get past that the actual gameplay has a good layout. Most if not all the combat keys are very close to each other on the keyboard, and you can easily move with one hand and fight with the other. If you have a controller, there are few enough buttons for you to use one, and the joystick would aid you greatly in combat. I would say overall this games control configuration is well laid out, despite the fact that you cannot use a mouse.
